The Top 15 Biggest Box Office Surprises of 2018 So Far!

Black Panther- This visually stunning Marvel smash hit broke box office records by grossing $700 million making it the third highest-grossing film of all time behind Avatar and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It's also the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time and the no. 1 highest grossing film of 2018. What an all black cast can do with a big movie like this.

I Can Only Imagine- This inspiring true story proved itself at the box office by grossing $83 million making it the most successful inspirational film of the year.

A Quiet Place- John Krasinski's directorial debut grossed $188 million at the domestic box office making it the highest grossing horror film of the year. A pretty good record breaker as well. It beat out all expectations.

Avengers: Infinity War- This Marvel mashup became the biggest weekend opener of all time beating out Star Wars: The Force Awakens by opening up at $257 million. Audiences and critics loved it. In the end, it finished up at over $670 million which makes it the fourth highest grossing film of all time surpassing Titanic.

Book Club- This over 60s chick flick starring Jane Fonda and Diane Keaton opened up at $14 million in its opening weekend but ended up grossing $69 million which wasn't bad at all.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?- This inspiring documentary about Fred Rogers made a good profit at the box office by becoming the highest-grossing documentary of 2018 by grossing $22 million which was unexpected but wonderful.

Incredibles 2- This long awaited Pixar sequel broke records at the box office by grossing $182 million in its opening weekend which is the highest for any animated film. It became the biggest animated film of all time by grossing $608 million surpassing Finding Dory.

Mission: Impossible- Fallout- This sixth installment of the blockbuster action franchise has proved itself very well at the box office. It opened up at $61 million and ended up grossing over $220 million which makes it the highest grossing Mission: Impossible movie ever!

The Meg- What do you get when Jason Statham fights a giant prehistoric shark? You get a box office hit opening up at $44 million in its opening weekend and finishing off at $142 million which was totally unexpected.

Crazy Rich Asians- An all-Asian cast in a hilarious and stylish romantic comedy opening up at $26 million in its opening weekend and finishing off at $173 million. Priceless.

The Nun- This scary prequel in The Conjuring series opened up at $53 million in its opening weekend making the second-largest September opening of all time behind last year's It.

A Star is Born- Bradley Cooper's directorial debut. Lady Gaga's acting debut. One Oscar-worthy musical drama. This film opened up at $42 million in its opening weekend and it's grossing $193 million so far at the box office which is unexpected and surprising. This is Bradley Cooper's surprise hit since American Sniper.

Venom- This standalone Marvel movie starring Tom Hardy opened up at $80 million in its opening weekend makes it the biggest October weekend opener beating out Gravity. The film itself grossed only $210 million at the box office.

Halloween- This sequel/remake starring Jamie Lee Curtis smashed box office records by opening up at $77 million in its opening weekend which makes it the second-largest October weekend opening behind Venom and the second-largest horror film weekend opening behind last year's It.

Bohemian Rhapsody- This amazing Queen biopic defied expectations and smashed box office records by opening up at $51 million in its opening weekend and it has grossed $164 million at the box office so far beating out Straight Outta Compton which makes Bohemian Rhapsody the highest grossing musical biopic of all time.
